Calling all art aficionados: A new innovative initiative will turn Dubai into a city-wide museum and you can be part of it.
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum @HHShkMohd I’m happy to announce the ‘Dubai Collection’, an innovative and first of its kind initiative to collect, promote and exhibit artworks that expresses the spirit of our beloved city. pic.twitter.com/Oo7LBzamZ1
Led by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Dubai Collection initiative will collect, promote and exhibit artworks that convey the spirit of the emirate. On top of the list of masterpieces that will be exhibited is the personal art collection of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Public and private entities, as well as individuals, are invited to contribute to the Dubai Collection by either acquiring artworks that can be loaned to the initiative or lending artworks from their own collections.
Contributors will be recognised as ‘patrons’ and maintain full ownership of their loaned artworks, Dubai Culture said, as it announced the initiative’s launch. Patrons will be invited to lend their artworks for the collection’s display at curated temporary exhibitions both within the city and across the world.
The idea is to bring together some of the finest works of art that bear a connection to Dubai and highlight the emirate’s heritage and progressive, cosmopolitan spirit.
Champion of the arts
Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairperson of Dubai Culture, thanked Sheikh Mohammed for his role in supporting the cultural industry and encouraging artists.
“We are eager to realise the vision of Sheikh Mohammed by launching initiatives that genuinely empower the local cultural community and contribute to reinforcing Dubai’s ambition to be a leading global creative hub and cultural destination,” Sheikha Latifa said.
“The Dubai Collection is a tangible step in that direction, reaffirming our commitment to helping artists, designers, and creatives of all types to actualise their aspirations in Dubai.”
Operating with the support of the government, the Dubai Collection will be implemented in partnership with the private sector and individual collectors. It was developed through a collaboration between Dubai Culture and Art Dubai.
