Indonesia loses contact with Sriwijaya Flight 182 after take off from Jakarta

Sriwijaya Air Flight 182 lost contact with Indonesia’s aviation authorities shortly after taking off from capital Jakarta, according to Indonesia’s search and rescue agency.

FlightRadar24 data show the plane was a Boeing 737-500 series and had more than 50 people on board, according to Reuters. Sriwijaya Air representatives could not immediately be reached for comment.

According to the flight tracker’s Twitter account, “Sriwijaya Air flight #SJ182 lost more than 10.000 feet of altitude in less than one minute, about 4 minutes after departure from Jakarta.”
