An expat told the police that he had been under the influence of some medications when he sexually assaulted a female employee at a store.

The Court of First Instance heard how the 41-year-old Arab operations manager inappropriately touched the employee from behind while she was on the job at a store in Al Garhoud.

The incident took place on June 2 and was reported at Al Rashidiya police station.

The public prosecution has requested a strict punishment against the defendant as he remains in detention.

During the investigation, the complainant, a 30-year-old Filipina, recounted: “I was near the vegetables and fruits section around 11pm at the store when the defendant sexually assaulted me from behind from over my clothes.

“He then came in front of me and I asked him about the reason he touched me but he just denied having done anything.”

The branch manager reported the defendant to the police upon learning about the incident.

A police lieutenant said that the complaint was received at 11.30pm on the same day.

“Through investigation, we tracked down the accused. On June 9, we showed his photo to the complainant and she confirmed it was the same person who assaulted her.”

The officer told the prosecutor that at 12.30pm on June 10, they called the defendant and told him to turn up at the police station. “When we interrogated him about the woman’s complaint, he confessed he touched her and claimed he was then under the influence of some medications.”

The complainant identified the defendant three times among other suspects at the police station.
